These apps are specifically created to meet prison regulations and permit family members and friends to send and receive messages, photos, eCards, video calls, as well as money into their trust accounts in prison. In addition to these messaging apps, there are a number of federal inmate apps that provide additional services such as video visitation and phone calls.
JPay, for example allows friends and family members to send money directly into an inmate’s trust account. It also allows emails, photos, videograms and eCards. They can also create personalized postcards by using their own photographs. It is a safer, more secure alternative to postal mail.
Another popular app for texting prisoners is GettingOut. It provides "simple, reliable communication" between inmates with their loved family members.
